As an author and visual artist, I adore what I do for a living. Writing about worlds yet unseen, hopeful futures, interesting people, it all adds to my life brilliantly. I struggled with the decision to add images to 3014 A.D., some saying nay, all while others supported my decision.
When I think of books with images in literary material, I always think of comic books and or graphic novels, both of which I adore.
I wanted 3014 A.D. to be taken seriously as a series, not seen as a gimmick. My mind was made up one day while having a cup of coffee, noticing a lovely young woman read. I did not mean to eavesdrop, and tried my best to give the young lady her privacy.
She then made a slight comment to herself, wondering out loud how one of the character looked. I then started a lovely short conversation, asking her if images would matter in the book she was reading.
She said yes.
When talking about the book , eyes lite, hands cradling what seems to have brought her great joy, the young woman went on about how visuals would make the story even more enchanting. I left the coffee shop that morning on a mission,I wanted to give my readers a full experience, titillating visuals that would make my books even more immersive. Eventually, six books and counting, hopefully I have created a universe people can enjoy.
To the young woman reading in the coffee shop, thank you. Whom ever you are, I hope you find my books one day, reading words and images that have poured from deep within my soul. As you read, I hope my work brings you the same joy as the book you held so dearly, it would be an honor. To the novelist out there with purely literary works of imagination and hard work, I adore you, keep "do'in you".
Myself on the other hand, have to be true to my own creative process.
